Our History
In 1985 Steve & Deborah Schechner opened Awning Works Inc. Their young sons, Jarrett and Jeremy grew up learning the awning and canopy business, doing everything from welding to awning installs.
They sure have come a long way. Jarrett, the older son, and VP of sales, works closely with architects and designers on awning and shade projects with Awning Works, where Jeremy, in 2003, started an e-commerce development business, under the name of eCentral Stores Inc. and created our 1st online store, Outdoor Fabric Central, selling the fabric they used most in the awning business, Sunbrella.
Since 2003, there have been several more e-commerce online stores added, including: Outdoor Textiles, which includes well-known fabric brands such as WeatherMax, Textilene, Serge Ferrari, Patio 500, and Phifertex. Jeremy has followed in Steve’s footsteps and currently leads the company as the CEO along with his wife, Wendy who provides marketing direction.
Our outstanding track record with our customers quickly made us one of the world's leading fabric suppliers for outdoor decor and exterior marine applications. In 2014, there was a major website makeover, combining all of the e-commerce stores under a larger umbrella, calling it Patio Lane.
We have also taken another step forward and now have many exclusive labeled Sunbrella patterns. Outdoor Textiles continues to evolve and be known in the industry as strong resource for automotive, industrial and marine fabrics. We as a family are committed to the effort of continually adding new high-quality products, staying in trend with the most innovative products, plus providing the most exceptional customer service possible.
